April 2013: Sculptural Works

Posted in Virtual Gallery

April’s Virtual Gallery features the sculptural works of Jan Hoy and Sara Owens.
Words that come to mind while looking at both these artists are “modern,” “geometric,” “earthy,” and “unique.”
Hoy’s work twists and turns through sculptured shapes made with fired clay dressed in the blue of patina or the burnt orange of an iron oxide finish. Other pieces shine with the allure of bronze and steel, and an inviting swerve of sensuality is present in many of the works.
Owens creates jewelry and sculptures for the post-modern neck, ear, lapel or wall using materials as diverse as Shetland wool, sink drains and pig bones. Radical!
