Guest Artist Patty Picco will be demonstrating at the Tuesday, June 14, meeting of Artists of South Whidbey (ASW), starting at 11:30 a.m. Picco’s artworks include encaustic mixed media and monotypes. Her demonstration will include painting on tissue paper to add collage elements to finished paintings or paintings in progress. Sometimes adding just the right piece of color or texture can add wonderful interest to the work, she said. This technique can also be used for backgrounds. Tissue paper collage will work with water media, as well as encaustic painting.
“I work intuitively,” Picco said, “and enjoy the process of layering different mediums, such as printmaking, photography, collage and encaustic painting to create pieces that are rich in luminosity and texture.”
Picco exhibits her mixed media paintings, prints and encaustic pieces in galleries and museums throughout the United States. She is an award-winning internationally collected artist. With over 25 years of teaching experience, her work can be seen at Penn Cove Gallery in Coupeville and on the cover of the 2009 Whidbey Telecom Phone Directory.
ASW welcomes painters of all levels and media to join their meetings. We begin with a sack lunch at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will begin at noon with the demonstration at 1:10 p.m. Please bring artwork to share or for gentle critique.
