The coveted title of Mr. South Whidbey will be awarded Saturday, Oct. 4 at Freeland Hall. The Mr. South Whidbey Pageant is a benefit for Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund that which helps neighbors on South Whidbey with medical expenses they cannot afford.

This year Andy Gilbert, Erik Jokinen, Frank Parra, Jerry Shimek, Ken Stephens, and Tucker Stevens will compete for the title, held for the past year by Gordon Stewart. The candidate who raises the most money wins. Each dollar a contestant collects equals one vote.

This year’s event is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 4,  at Freeland Hall. Sue Frause will return for her seventh year as the entertaining emcee of this highly anticipated, humorous fundraiser. To enjoy the pageant, vote for a favorite candidate and witness the crowning of Mr. South Whidbey 2014. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Moonraker Books in Langley or Paint Escape in Freeland. Light fare this year will include crusty baguettes, delicious cheeses, grapes and Seattle Chocolates. Beverages will be by donation.

For those unable to attend, you can vote for your favorite candidate online: http://fofmedicalsupportfund.org/ and click on “Donate Online.” Online votes must be received by midnight, Friday, Oct. 3, Pacific Time.

In the meantime, anyone can post the date and place of a sighting of the David cutout on the Friends of Friends Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Friends-Medical-Support-Fund/145660238799128. That person will become eligible for a drawing for two free tickets to this year’s pageant.

Mr. South Whidbey 2014 is sponsored, in part, through the generous support of Island Home Nursing, Offgrid Engineering, Porter-Whidbey Insurance, Whidbey Telecom, Randy Enberg Insurance Agency and Greg Hein.
