This is an invitation to all community members to join together in a big, fond appreciation farewell for Donna & Bill Humphreys at 6:30 p.m on Sunday, July 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.

They have enriched our lives on Whidbey since arriving on the island in 1978. Their involvements have been devoted to the community – Bill as an educator in the South Whidbey schools, teaching health, music, math, algebra, humanities, and being SWHS choir director. He also worked in the Oak Harbor schools. He has been Director of Whidbey Island Chorale, and worked with Open Circle Singers and Sing!chronicity. He has inspired hundreds of us with his “music ministry” throughout the years, including as Director of Music & Sacred Arts at Langley Methodist Church, giving life to magical collaborations with community poets, musicians, dramatists, other churches and organizations, spiritual leaders and directors.

Donna served as a Girl Scout Field Executive, recruiting and training in our local schools and connecting with leaders in Coupeville and Oak Harbor, as well as the entire Totem Girl Scout Council. She has also given to the creative, civic, business, and nonprofit worlds of Whidbey which wove her into a broader fabric of South Whidbey constituencies – Langley Methodist Church, the Star Store, legal Assistant for attorney, Jacqueline Shafer, Dorset Oil and Gas, United Methodist Construction, KLC Construction, Many Rivers Company, and Giraffe Heroes Project; She was campaign treasurer for Todd Peterson’s run for County Commissioner 1987, and campaign treasurer for Dave Anderson’s first run for State Representative.

They raised their family here and were involved in helping at High School musicals, chaperoning youth group programs, hikes, dances, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Pony Club, soccer. Now their dedication to family is what takes them to Santa Fe, NM, where their grown children and their grandchildren live. We bid a fond farewell and may their lives continue to prosper! They love the Whidbey community deeply and appreciate the opportunity they’ve had to witness the great enrichment of their lives that comes from having lived here.

And now we celebrate them! Thanking them for their huge giving hearts and the endless hours they have contributed in shaping and building our wonderful island community.
