To put a line from one of Karin Blaine’s songs into future tense: “that’s just the way it’s going to go down.”
The wickedly talented Northwest singer songwriter typically performs solo, complementing the vocal delivery of her urban-edged lyrics with tasteful guitar picking. However, at the Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 10 she will be accompanied by a group of musicians whose talent and experience will provide an exciting interpretation of Blaine’s work. Her fans will certainly want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear her “original songs for modern day living” in this unique context.
Her twin sister Siri Bardarson will lend her sensitive and expressive expertise on cello as well as the very close family connection that has served their music so well in previous band projects and other gigs. Multi-instrumentalist Steve Showell will bring his knowledge of an eclectic variety of musical styles, his technical precision and deep musicality to the equation. Finally, Australian-born musician Mel Watson will add what may be the afternoon’s most unique element to Blaine’s songs; she plays trumpet, as well as different percussive intstruments.
The event is free to the public. Blaine and her friends perform until 3:30 p.m.
At 4 p.m. the final musical performance of the weekend’s festival will be delivered by the Bayview Sound Quartet. Coupeville residents Lynn and Debbie Cantwell will be joined by vocalist Teresa Mooney and bassist Richard Hughes in a musical presentation that features fine vocal harmonies and well-crafted arrangements of roots, country and blues tunes.
