Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund will celebrate the 10th annual Mr. South Whidbey Pageant at 7:00 p.m., October 3 at Freeland Hall. Back by popular demand, nine talented and community-minded contestants from years past will compete for your generous donations. Friends of Friends is delighted to welcome back Sue Frause as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Come enjoy the playful banter and laughter between Sue and these seasoned contestants.
John Auburn of JW Desserts, known for his tasty custom cakes, now owns the Whidbey Island Bagel Factory at Ken’s Korner.
Rocco Gianni, a popular retired school teacher and a member of the South Whidbey School Board, bicycles up and down the California coast for fun.
George Henny is a pianist, thespian, community-supporting co-owner of Whidbey Telecom, and a self-professed techno-geek.
Randy Hudson, a member of the Rural Characters band and a Clinton-based foundry worker, always goes the extra mile for Friends of Friends.
Paul Mathews, a former Friends of Friends board member, is a world traveler and punster extraordinaire.
Frank Parra, who boasts he has no talent, runs Sebo’s Do-it Center, Bayview Appliance & Mattress, and Bayview Design Center.
Jim Scullin, an actor, set builder, and board member of Hearts and Hammers, generously builds the Mr. South Whidbey Pageant ramp every year.
Gordon Stewart, a budding comedian and singer, is also a gourmet chef and co-owner of Gordon’s on Blueberry Hill Restaurant in Freeland.
Nick Welles, a cheerful and accommodating barista at Useless Bay Coffee Company, will make your latte and your day with his Cheshire grin.
The competition rules are simple: The contestant who raises the most money for Friends of Friends wins ($1 = 1 vote). Bring your friends, cash and check book to ensure your favorite contestant walks away with the coveted title of Mr. South Whidbey 2015. Tickets are now on sale for $30 at Moonraker Books in Langley, and Paint Escape in Freeland.
If you cannot attend the event but would like to support your favorite contestant(s), you may vote online at http://fofmedicalsupportfund.org/ by clicking the Donate Online button, or send a check to Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund, PO Box 812, Langley, WA 98260.
