Safeway in Oak Harbor will host a grand re-opening celebration at 12 noon on Friday, May 22.
To commemorate the re-opening, Safeway is focusing the celebration on the 100-year anniversary of Oak Harbor. The company will honor the people of Oak Harbor and the deep military ties within the community.
The newly remodeled, 24-hour store is located at 1450 SW Erie St. The Oak Harbor Safeway is making history as the first store to undergo a complete banner change from Albertsons to Safeway, after the merger of the two companies in January.
To kick-off the event, the Oak Harbor Wildcat Battalion Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp Color Guard will perform and a trio from the Battalion will sing the Star Spangled Banner. The Safeway Foundation will be surprising a local Military Organization—the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (http://www.nmcrs.org/)—with a special donation that will benefit the service men and women at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and veterans. The NMCRS is a non-profit, and funded by active and retired Military personnel. Along with honoring NMCRS, the store will be giving a 10% discount on grocery purchases from May 22nd to May 25th, for all active duty military, and retired veterans with a military ID.
Safeway is also the official grocer of the Seattle Seahawks. All active military personnel and veterans are eligible for a raffle to win two pairs of FREE tickets to the Seahawks’ Military Appreciate game. Entrants must be present to win at the store opening at 12 noon, May 22.
