A consumable art exhibition—the fourth annual South Whidbey Edible Book Festival returns from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at Bayview Community Hall.
This tasty FUNdraiser is open to everyone and free to attend. Donations are encouraged and will benefit the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation. This year, the Foundation will contribute the proceeds to the Healthy Island Youth Initiative (HIYI) program, which provides scholarships and financial assistance for area youth to participate in sports and other recreational activities.
Create an “Edible Book” inspired by a graphic novel, or book, but made out of edible ingredients. Entries can be savory or sweet; just make sure they tickle the taste buds (and maybe the funny bone!) Contestants may enter an appetizer, entree or dessert so get creative and have some fun. All entrees should be family friendly.
There is no specific deadline for entering the April 2 event, but an email with your contact information, book title, entry title, name and age will allow us to plan for space. If possible, a copy of the book cover or book itself can be displayed with your entry.
Categories include “Best In Show,” “Best Visual Presentation,” “Most Punderful,” and “Most Appetizing.” There are additional categories for kids under age 12 and—new this year—a Family category. Winners are chosen by an audience vote. Also look for our special Raffle Items also new this year.
Entry registration is scheduled for the day of the event—from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Viewing, judging and photography will take place between 1:30 and 3 PM. Once voting is done and the winners are announced, we eat! Everything goes quickly, so don’t be late.
Merchant sponsorship opportunities are also available. We encourage individuals and businesses to partner with the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation in the way that feels best. For more information regarding the Foundation, please visit swpaf.org.
