Please join the South Whidbey High School and Langley Middle School Jazz Bands for the perennially favorite Sweetheart Big Band Dance, a fundraiser, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at South Whidbey High School.
Enjoy great music, refreshments, raffle and door prizes and swing dance instruction by Walter Dill.
The cost is $10 or $30 for families of four or more. This is a wonderful, festive multi-age evening, so put on your dancing shoes! This is a major fundraiser for the SWHS and LMS Jazz Band programs.
The dance will take place in the New Commons at South Whidbey High School, 5675 Maxwelton Road in Langley.
The SWHS and LMS Jazz Bands have done an outstanding job at regional and national competitions under the direction of Chris Harshman (SWHS) and Jess Monett (LMS). SWHS Jazz Band has won first prize in their division at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival since 2000. In 2008, the SWHS Jazz Band was one of twelve jazz bands selected to compete at the prestigious Essential Ellington Jazz Festival in New York City. They were also selected as a finalist at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 2009.
The bands from both schools can be found performing at many community-based venues. Fundraising is vital for most arts programs in the schools. Please help support this vital program. Any questions, call 360.929.9362. Tickets are available at the door or from any jazz band student.
