Strange as it seems to write the numbers 2014 for the first time this year, I’m happy to see 2013 come
to an end. We are starting off this year of the virtual gallery with two of the island’s dynamic
sculptors.
Dan Freeman works with many different materials: from objects he finds, to wood, metal, and stone
he shapes to do his bidding, Dan’s work is often elegant and humorous at the same time, the humor
sometimes coming out in the title. His joy in making things comes across loud and clear.
Lloyd Whannell works in stone, both large and small. From tall, narrow portrait busts to massive
stonework for landscaping and architectural details, Lloyd gets right to the heart of the stone to allow
it to find it’s voice.

Lloyd Whannell Artist statement
The Featured Artists’ Gallery is sponsored by Walking Woman Productions and has been created as a means for Whidbey Island visual artists to bring new and experimental work closer to the public eye. While Whidbey Island is well-represented by several high-quality art galleries, for the un-represented artist there is a lack of venues in which to show ones’ work. Established and emerging artists alike may utilize the Featured Artists’ Gallery to exhibit new work, gain experience and receive feedback. All work exhibited is for sale. Please visit the website link provided for each artists’ complete contact information. Artists are invited to participate by the gallery curators, if you think your work is suitable for a show, please contact us at info@whidbeylifemagazine.org.
