March 1, 2014
March is coming in like a snow leopard…a snow leopard that has been stealthily lurking about in the rain, and then comes in to shake its wet fur all over the living room, just before it gets up on the new couch.
Fortunately, this month’s Virtual Gallery has the perfect antidote to gloom and rain. We refuse to wait for May flowers, not even April blooms. Our featured artists for March are watercolorist Kay Parsons and photographer Louie Rochon.
Parsons’ luminous floral watercolor paintings are so real and beautifully composed that you can almost detect a flower’s fragrance as you view them. Rochon’s photographs go one step further, as they zoom in on the flowers, creating abstract compositions that combine vibrant color with their organic beginnings, creating a new universe to explore.
You can visit Kay Parsons’ studio on the Spring Whidbey Working Artists’ Tour, and see Louie Rochon’s new photographs on Facebook at or his website (links listed below).

The Featured Artists’ Gallery is sponsored by Walking Woman Productions and has been created as a means for Whidbey Island visual artists to bring new and/or experimental work closer to the public eye. While Whidbey Island is well-represented by several high-quality art galleries, for the un-represented artist there is a lack of venues in which to show ones’ work. Established and emerging artists alike may utilize the Featured Artists’ Gallery to exhibit new work, gain experience and receive feedback. All work exhibited is for sale. Please visit the website link provided for each artists’ complete contact information. Artists are invited to participate by the gallery curators, if you think your work is suitable for a show, please contact us at info@whidbeylifemagazine.org.
WOW! Louis Rochon’s photos are just incredible! Color, clarity, mystery, beauty—they’ve got it all. He needs to make and sell a book.
