My husband, Jim, and I are very sorry we missed this parade. We had made other plans several months before that we couldn’t change. By all accounts from a whole lot of people it was a great success. The pictures here seem to prove that. Thanks a lot for what you did. We will certainly be a part of it next year.
These are great photos by David Welton and a wonderful homage to the parade. As an editor though, it pains me not to see any captions here identifying these folks in the shots. Where are the captions WLM? Do your homework!
Thanks for appreciating the photos Patricia, we think David captured the joy and excitement of the parade. I agree, captions would add to these photos, however we are in the midst of preparing our next print issue while we continue to publish new stories online weekly. We are working with the same group of mostly volunteers to achieve both of those things and that means we have to prioritize our time. Katie Woodzick wrote a lovely article for us for the parade and we chose to support and enjoy the parade by marching in it. Given our resources we didn’t plan to follow up with a photo essay. Then David provided us with these wonderful photos and we made the choice to share them rather than not. Our hope was that more people would appreciate the photography and the experience of the parade than by not getting to see them at all. As you know, we are blessed with an abundance of wonderful artists and events to write and photograph here and although we can’t cover it all or do it in a way everyone would like, we do attempt to do so earnestly and with great appreciation for this community.
Sure. It’s a lot to cover, Sue. But years from now this would be a great document to capture the history of the parade. Without captions, it will have less impact later. Perhaps you could add them after the fact? I’m sure someone could find out the names of almost everyone in these photos. I would recommend that if only for posterity. It’s a great archive you have here and it would be a shame to lose its value for historical reasons.
Wonderful job, David!
I completely agree. Great photos, which deserve some equally great captions to help tell the story.
What a great first effort! Make it an annual event.
Fantastic pics as usual, David! You always do such fine work. Greatly appreciated!!
No wonder we live here! Who’s on First? The First Amendment in action, on First Street! Congrats to all of the Free Thinkers! David, your pictures rock the Rock! Thank you Whidbey Life!
